[Team Four] I just haven't met you yet

Sorry for being late! Continuation/ending scene to this. This fic is very heavily based on HIMYM, and I'm seriously planning to finish the whole story at some point!

The night was still young, Minseok and Boah had earlier said their vows to each other, they had finally been pronounced as husband and wife, and it was finally the proper party time. That's why it didn't come as a surprise that none of the guests seemed to be in a hurry to leave any time soon.

The band had stopped playing the wedding dance, last members carrying their instruments away, while the dj was ready to take the place by setting up the needed equipment on the table by the dance floor. Some people were eagerly lining up for the bar counter, some were drinking and chatting while standing in formed circles and some were eagerly waiting for their turn in line to say their personal congratulations for the wedding couple, which meant both Minseok and Boah were constantly surrounded by the mass of people.

Baekhyun was the only rare one sitting by the table, spinning the glass of white wine between his fingers as he looked at the scene. He faintly chuckled to himself as his eyes spotted Jongdae in a heated conversation with Bomi, a girl whom Jongdae hadn't shut up for weeks but hadn't had enough courage to approach her.

“Of course you can come and meet my family's dog, whenever you want!” Jongdae's exaggeratively excited and high-pitched voice could be heard over the crowd, and Baekhyun couldn't help but snort.

Well, good thing that idiot had finally found his balls. Although Jongdae's family didn't have have a dog, to be exact, but maybe he was going to borrow his cousin's dog again just to impress the girl. Later on, Baekhyun was surely going to insist to hear all the juicy details – and obviously tease Jongdae a little bit, because the embarrassed reactions of the his best friend tended to be more than hilarious.

Then, his eyes travelled back to Minseok and Boah, who were talking with Lee Jinki. Although politely talking with their friend, the two were occasionally throwing tender glances at each other's directions or Minseok kept extending his arm to furtively brush his wife's hand with his. They looked like they were disgustingly in love and the sight made insides of Baekhyun's stomach to clench a little bit.

“You know what I love about her the most,” Minseok had started carefully earlier, as two of them had been standing by the altar, waiting for the ceremony to start and Boah to walk through the aisle to her husband. “It's that-- Boah has eyes.”

“What are you talking about?” Baekhyun had required, being sure his hyung was either freaking out or passing out in any minute and therefore his talk not making any sense either.

“She has eyes,” Minseok had said again, looking thoughtful.

“I have eyes too?”

“Nahhh, it's just different. You'll know it once it happens to you too.”

Baekhyun still wasn't sure what Minseok had meant with that.

“Baekhyuuuun! Come on best man, your duties are already done, let's drink now!” a passer-by (whose name he couldn't tell) suddenly hit his shoulder, pointing at the bar counter. Quickly, Baekhyun only ended up showing a polite smile while raising a wine glass at the dude and three other men behind his back.

“I'll empty this first but will follow you guys soon, you need some head start anyway!” he exclaimed.

That was a thick lie. He definitely wasn't good at holding his liqueur, but random busters without names didn't need to know that. Not like it would have mattered anyway because they surely would forget his existence soon enough. And it seemed like the answer had satisfied the gang well enough, so he was safe.

His eyes travelled back to Minseok and Boah, but his friends were obviously way too busy to notice him ogling at them. Maybe being the center of the attention for the whole day had made its wonders too, getting used to curious looks. Or maybe that was the famous power of love, something Baekhyun had no much praiseworthy experience of. The thought made him a little bit sad.

He threw one more glance at Minseok and Boah, and then to Jongdae who was still engaged in a conversation with his girl, and then the group of Minseok's friends who he could tell names for maybe half of them. Baekhyun felt out of place. While he was more than happy for his friends, he realized that maybe at that point he wasn't too much needed there for anyone for the rest of the night.

Baekhyun put the half-full glass on the table, stood up and imperceptibly went towards the exit. As expected, no-one really seemed to pay attention to side tables and therefore no-one saw him leaving the venue.

It was dark already, only street lights lighting up the way as Baekhyun walked further from the building. Big floor-to-ceiling windows weren't hiding anything when he looked over his shoulder, the scene inside still looking warm, happy and inviting but he just wasn't the one feeling welcomed.

Baekhyun continued his walk until he reached the nearest bus stop. He could have taken the taxi, but he felt like he needed fresh air anyway and local bus drives with music coming from the air pods had a tendency to make him get lost in his thoughts in a comfortable way. It was a very simple bus stop with only one line driving past, so there was no roof above the bench, yet Baekhyun sat down and fished the phone out of his pocket to check the time table.

All of a sudden, a rain drop fell on his phone screen and Baekhyun silently cursed to himself. Of course it was about to rain when there was no cover nearby. Not to mention, he hadn't seen his dearest umbrella since he had accidentally left it at the place of his last date.

More rain drops could be heard dropping between the humming leaves. Baekhyun was already weighing with two options if he should just take off his jacket to cover his head or go back to the party, when there suddenly was an appearing arm holding an umbrella and extending it towards him.

Baekhyun looked up. He hadn't seen or heard anyone else coming to the bus stop.

“Oh, did I startle you?” the low voice asked behind the yellow umbrella, with a worried tone. “You just didn't have an umbrella and I have two so... ooooh, you're the best man!”

The owner of the umbrella tilted the item in his hand and Baekhyun was met with tall lanky man with a blonde hair, and with a pair of very big friendly eyes. He was wearing a suit and a black guitar case was hanging from his shoulder. The guy didn't seem familiar though, so Baekhyun raised his eyebrow.

“I mean yeah,” the guy continued, probably realizing the dumbfounded look on Baekhyun's face meant there was some explanation needed. “I saw you at the wedding. I was playing in the wedding band, I'm the guitarist. You held a really nice speech for the wedding couple, by the way!”

“Well... thanks. I guess. I listened to your playing too, it was very good.”

The stranger smiled, the corners of his eyes forming little wrinkles and that's when it hit Baekhyun--

“You have eyes.”

“Pardon me?”

“You-- mfff, nevermind,” Baekhyun muttered. “Are you also waiting for the bus, maybe we should sit and wait for it together?”

*****

“I thought you were supposed to be in Busan already,” Jongdae said, brows furrowed in a questioning manner as they were sitting in a bar a day after the wedding.

“Change of plans!” Baekhyun informed but everyone knew he wore a heart in his sleeve, so there was no way he wouldn't be revealing anything more. “Or actually, I... met a guy.”

“You met a guy,” Jongdae repeated, not sounding impressed. “You were supposed to go to a job interview for your dream job and now you're ditching this great chance because you met a guy. I have a feeling I've heard this same story million times before. I mean, who is this person this time?”

“The guitar player from the wedding band.”

Jongdae's face lightened up a little bit. “Oooooooh, what!? He seemed really good-looking and great!”

Baekhyun chuckled, the change in Jongdae's tone was something he also thought. He fiddled with the phone in his hand.

“What are you doing?” Jongdae required, his face dropping as he probably guessed the answer already.

“Calling him.”

“No, don't do that,” Jongdae shook his head firmly. “Do not call him. Not on the next day, you're blowing this. You remember what you've told me thousands of times? It's three days. You wait three days--”

Baekhyun ignored him and raised the phone next to his ear. “Hi, it's Byun Baekhyun here. The best man. Listen, are you free tomorrow for a dinner?”

Jongdae desperately turned to their friend Kyungsoo to look for some support. “Look how he's doing it again. Meeting a guy, thinking he's the right one for him, blowing it up and then crying after a heart break. And it's going to be us who are going to hear about it and help him to get over it!”

“No,” Kyungsoo answered simply, a mischievous smile on his face all of a sudden.

Kyungsoo's eyes didn't leave Baekhyun who had turned around slightly on the seat, but his shy smile couldn't get hidden as the phone call got going on. He kept babbling how he was rooting for team Cap rather than Iron Man, occasionally laughing nervously and throwing lame punchlines but the person on the other line didn't seem to have plans to hang up.

“No?” Jongdae blinked at Kyungsoo.

“I think this one's different.”

Jongdae puffed in frustration. “We don't know his name, we know nothing about him, who is this guy even!”

“Patience. I have a feeling we'll get to know him very soon.”
