[Team One] Wake Up Call
Xiuhan fluff.
On the road
Minseok texted with one thumb before tossing his cellphone into his open backpack, which was propped in the passenger seat. He didn’t want Lu Han to call and distract him while driving. Before he had finished backing out from the parking lot, a crumbling asphalt sheet sandwiched between their ten-story apartment building and a garlic field, the phone rang.
Minseok ignored it with gritted teeth for 8 rings, though he knew Lu Han would keep calling til he answered. Minseok pressed the button on his steering wheel that answered the call, connecting his cell to the bluetooth audio.
“Minseokkie,” Lu Han’s voice immediately echoed, not waiting for a greeting. “You didn’t kiss me goodbye.” He sounded sleepy, not whiny, and Minseok’s practical annoyance struggled against the more tender side of his feelings.
“Han, it’s not even 6am yet. You hate waking up early. Go back to sleep.” He shouldn’t have texted. It was his text that probably woke Lu Han.
“I like kisses at 6am,” Lu Han said, his voice breathy and velvety with sleep. “I wouldn’t complain about waking up for that.”
Minseok groaned, waiting to reply until he could safely merge onto the main road. A lone taxi with a vacant sign was the only other vehicle in sight. The town was small enough, and so far outside Seoul’s sprawling suburbs that all the local shops closed by dinner time, and many didn’t reopen the next day until 10am. But Minseok was still meticulous about signaling his lane change in the empty streets, keeping his eyes on the road ahead. No telling when a feral cat might jump out of the brush and freeze, glassy eyed, in the middle of the road.
“Minseok?” came Lu Han’s voice again, distorted by the stretch of a yawn.
“Sorry, Han, I’m driving. I’ll call you when I get to Incheon? Around 9?”
“Yeah, okay.” Minseok heard Lu Han yawn again, then the creak of the mattress as he no doubt burrowed deeper into the mess of covers. “Thanks. Drive safe.”
“Love you,” Minseok said softly, no longer annoyed, as he the car sped up, approaching the highway.
“Love you!” Lu Han murmured, sounding halfway asleep already. “I’m blowing you a kiss,” he said before hanging up, and Minseok felt warmer in the chilly car than he should have at 5:40am in February.
Your turn,
luciferxdamien! My apologies for being late.
