[Team Two] Restlessness
Hello, guys! *waves* New member here! I'm doing NaNo this year so this little something is me playing and figuring out some secondary characters of my novel and their group dynamics. (For a little context, this is a fantasy world with wolf shifters and magic.)
"This time, please do try not to offend anyone," Tamara says, eyeing both Eam and him with suspicious eyes. Jay raises his eyebrows at her, face slack. She maintains eye contact for a moment, and then suddenly deflates with a long, defeated sigh. "Yeah, why do I even bother?"
"Naomi's with them," Jay points out. "And you know how well she and Eam get on," he adds sarcastically.
It’s telling that Eam doesn’t even try to defend himself. He barely seems to have heard them speaking, leaning against the wall with one foot on it, arms crossed. His long russet hair is up in his customary ponytail, and the end of it spills down his right shoulder, covering his arm up to his elbow.
He’s handsome. He always is.
"I can try to reign him in, but…" Jay shrugs and smiles half-heartedly at Tamara. "There's no force that will stop Naomi, and you know that."
"They are bringing guests," Tamara tries anyway. It sounds almost desperate. "Maybe she's being well behaved."
Jay lets his silence speak for him. Tamara wilts like a flower out of season.
"Why couldn’t it be Malya?” she whines. Jay can’t really blame her—she’s in charge of their group during this meeting, and that’s a difficult thing to do when there are so many different personalities crashing in a single room. He doesn’t envy her the headache. “She's reasonable! And beautiful! Not that Naomi isn't, because she's a babe, but Malya wouldn't stir any trouble, and then Eam would act like our quiet stoic boy as always, and then nobody would be risking any egg on their face!" she says. “And by nobody, I mean me, because God knows that nothing at all bothers Eam in that way.”
Eamerys’ face doesn’t change, but his overall countenance now radiates smugness. Jay snorts, but Tamara’s looking a little wild now, so he interrupts before she decides to shift and start roughhousing with his best friend.
“Don’t worry so much,” he says, “it was them who asked for the meeting, and Fiona knew what she was risking by sending us. There has to be a reason for that, and nothing we do will make it fall through, no matter what.”
Tamara relaxes some, but her hands open and close nervously, nails sharper than normal. “I hope you’re right.”
(I think I did everything I had to *squints* If not, please tell me!)

Honestly, I still don't know these characters myself - they haven't even appeared in my novel yet! In fact, only one of them was name-dropped and there's a vague reference of them as a group, but nothing else. Eam and Jay were already in my mind, but Tamara was a surprise. Still, I love her. Exploring their dynamics is fun, and so is getting to know them some more.
(Sorry for the ramble :'D)
