[Team One] Jinro Game
Sudden weird flash of inspiration.
The “Enchanted Forest Amusement Park” wasn’t as enchanting as the name would make it sound to be. Sakuma looked around warily.
Maybe it was the strange, morbid humor of whoever had started this ‘game’. A game of life and death. He had read about these kind of scenarios in manga before but he had never imagined for someone to make it real and for him to be part of it.
He was scared of what was going to happen of what was happening but when he looked at the faces around him, he tried to push his own feelings aside and tried to smile at others in an attempt to make them feel better. In a way, he was just being his regular silly self. When he got some laughter out of others it calmed his own nerves down as well.
But that laughter betrayed him.
“Someone who can smile and laugh in this kind of situation has a secret. You’re one of the werewolves!” The accusation was followed by other hissed ‘werewolf’s and Sakuma could feel all eyes on him, cold eyes, filled with hatred and disgust.
“You’re wrong! I am human! I just can’t stand it if people are scared and sad like that!”
“Get him!”
Sakuma struggled but he was overpowered soon enough and the other ‘villagers’ took him to the ‘Room of Judgement’ where they chained him to the wall.
He pulled on his restraints but they didn’t budge. Then Sakuma watched in horror as one of the other’s went over to pick up a gun that was lying on a table.
“Don’t do it! You’ll regret it. I’m no werewolf. You’re about to make a big mistake!” Sakuma tried one last time but to no avail. Searing pain shot through his abdomen and then he watched with morbid fascination as his shirt slowly but surely turned dark red.
Everyone in front of him stared hopefully at the monitor somewhere next to him where a countdown was slowly but surely reaching 0. When it reset to 24:00:00 sounds of despair and disbelief went through the crowd and people seemed to flee the room, leaving Sakuma behind.
As his blood trickled down, Sakuma could feel how his life was running out as well. Ah, he was going to die. Somehow that thought did not seem so bad anymore. Although, he was a little sad.
And a little…
That dark emotion made him shiver a little bit. It scared him, it was so very unlike him but somehow it felt tempting and comforting right now.
Suddenly the door to the room opened and two shadows appeared in it. One standing upright, the other being dragged along on the floor. The one on the floor came flying his way and Sakuma recognized the body as the lifeless form of the guy who had held the gun earlier. The ‘village chief’. There was blood all over him. A werewolf had ripped out part of his shoulder.
He could hear footsteps coming closer. And then someone knelt down in front of him and a rough tongue started to lap up some of the blood that was still oozing out of the wound. It made him suck in a shuddery breath which soon turned into what sounded like a moan.
Why did this feel good? It shouldn’t. Maybe his near-death brain was doing weird things.
“I feel like it would be a waste for you to die,” a pair of glowing yellow eyes looked up at him through dark bangs and Sakuma recognized the other from earlier in the day. The other’s name was Iwamoto Hikaru. He had gone to cheer the other up first a few hours ago because he had thought that Iwamoto had looked pretty miserable and uncomfortable. And Iwamoto had laughed at his silly antics so earnestly and told him that they had made him feel better. It had calmed Sakuma down a lot and given him courage to cheer others up as well.
“Want to live?”
“...yeah…” Sakuma whispered softly.
“Take revenge?”
“Yeah…” there was no hesitation here, to his own surprise.
“It’ll only hurt for a little bit, I promise.”
The glowing yellow eyes reminded Sakuma of a full moon. And the next moment he felt how he seemed to be swallowed up by the cold, glowing moon. Iwamoto sunk his sharp fangs into his neck but instead of ripping it out, something else happened. Something changed Sakuma’s body. It hurt and it was making him feel sick but it also made him feel alive again.
One of the last things he remembered before being swallowed up by darkness was the feel of Iwamoto’s lips on his and then the whispered promise of ‘see you again soon’.
When Sakuma opened his eyes again, he found himself surrounded by darkness still but it was not the same darkness he had just woken from. It was a little bit more tangible. A bodybag.
He unzipped it and found himself in the same room still. There was another bag next to his.
Since no one else seemed to be around, he got out of the bag and stretched.
His senses led him outside the room then, into the night. Soon, Sakuma picked up a scent and followed it. Sure enough, he found Iwamoto after a while. The other was just wiping his mouth and a lifeless body dropped onto the ground in front of him.
Feeling the hunger, Sakuma ‘helped himself’, not caring whether he got blood on his clothes since his shirt had been bloody anyway.
Once his hunger was satiated, he looked up again and found Iwamoto waiting for him.
“How do you feel?”
“Great.”
Iwamoto smirked. “Well then, the next round of the game has started.”
A/N: This is based on actual rules in a card game called "Jinro Dodge" where every player is assigned 2 roles based on cards, an active role and a discarded role. One of the roles has the ability to switch out the active and discarded cards of a player, so in this case Sakuma's villager card would have been swapped for a werewolf one. *random*
