[team four] a stag and a rose

apologies for being late!

i love coming up with new AUs lol, and this is the newest project/idea. heavily inspired by these lovely game of thrones edits of chanyeol and baekhyun. i love GoT and i love EXO, so figuring out this AU is a lot of fun~

The day was special. The biggest tournament held in King's Landing in years, the biggest celebration to honor the new crown prince that had just been born. The city was full of people coming from all parts and corners of the kingdom; nobles, knights, commonfolk, adventurers, outlaws, all making the crowded and chaotic city even more crowded and chaotic.

The tournament field was also bigger than ever, full of curious crowd and eager knights all wishing to win the very generous main price. The field was full of colors from all the tents and proud banners and flags of the participating houses rising above the crowd, flapping in the wind. The atmosphere was festive and boisterous.

Chanyeol was bored. He was sitting in the special stand meant for the King and his court and guests, surrounded mostly by people he didn’t know or didn’t want to talk to. Half of the folks there were utterly boring nobles and the other half annoying courtiers. He had forgotten how much he disliked the court and all the royal malarkey. On top of that, he had forgotten how tedious it was to watch a joust. He almost missed being part of the competing knights. Almost.

"Good day, my lord," someone chirped and pulled Chanyeol out of his thoughts. He turned to see two younger women squeezing to sit on the seats in front of him, smiling sweetly up at him. One of them was a stranger, but the one who'd greeted him–

"Seulgi, is that you?" The last time Chanyeol had seen the young lady of House Tyrell, she'd been a mere girl. Now she was a beautiful young woman.

"Yes," Seulgi grinned. "So nice to see you after so long, my lord. You look great."

"And you look very beautiful," Chanyeol smiled.

"Have you met Sooyoung, from House Rowan?" Seulgi introduced her friend. "She's a good friend of mine and this is her first time in the capital."

"Is that so? Nice to meet you, my lady, I hope you enjoy your stay." Chanyeol said politely to the smiling and blushing girl but his mind was somewhere else completely.

His eyes wandered towards the knights who were waiting for their turns with their horses farther away. If Seulgi was there, then it meant...

"Is your brother taking part to the joust by any chance?" Chanyeol asked her.

"Oh, like he would miss an opportunity to show off," Seulgi said rolling her eyes. "He's somewhere there getting ready."

Chanyeol sat up a bit straighter. The joust had just gotten more interesting to him.

Unfortunately, he really had to stretch his patience and witness many mediocre fights before the one he actually cared about. As one of the last riders for that day, they finally announced ser Donghae from the capital and the Flower Knight of Highgarden.

"Oh, he's so handsome," Chanyeol heard Seulgi and her friend whisper excitedly when Donghae rode past them to greet the King and Queen. Chanyeol's eyes, however, were on the other contestant who approached from the opposite direction: a knight in a shining armor and Tyrell's rose painted on his wide shield. He rode a mare grey like a shadow. Like Donghae, he also caused some bustling and giggling in the lady sections of the audience. Chanyeol felt pride swell in his chest knowing that.

His pride just grew bigger when he watched ser Donghae fall from horseback right after the Flower Knight’s spear had splintered his shield. Lucky for him, he only lost his shield (and maybe part of his pride). Chanyeol stood up with the rest of the audience, cheering and clapping as the winner bowed at them for thanks before riding away.

“You cheered for the Flower Knight, my lord?” Seulgi’s friend asked, watching Chanyeol clapping.

“Lord Chanyeol and my brother are old friends, so of course he does,” Seulgi said before Chanyeol could think of good enough of an answer.

Old friends indeed.

--

A proper tournament would be nothing without a feast. And the Crown had clearly put their everything into the celebration. Chanyeol didn’t remember the last time he’d seen such a party, not even during the royal wedding.

The inner castle yard was dedicated to the feast, as were parts of the royal garden. There was food: rows and rows of tables full of the finest dishes, wines and ale; and there were troubadours, mimes and jesters entertaining the guests. It was all very bustling and boisterous and Chanyeol would’ve probably enjoyed it more on a different occasion.

But right then, he had only one thing in mind: he was walking around among the guests and hoping to run into a certain someone. Unfortunately in a huge feast like that, it meant running into several people you weren’t looking for and possibly would rather not even meet. Chanyeol had to exchange pleasantries and chit-chat with too many different knights, Kingsguard members and court ladies. But it was all worth it in the end because finally, finally, he spotted the knight he had been looking for the whole evening.

The man was just excusing himself from a company of three ladies and walking a bit to the side, sipping wine from his cup. Chanyeol didn’t want to lose him, so he quickly approached, suddenly feeling a faint nervous? excited? twist in his gut. It had been so long.

“May I have a moment of your time, ser?”

The way the other turned, ready to face one more of the dozens well-wishers with a polite but a little stiff smile, and the way his face lit up with genuine joy the second he recognized Chanyeol made him very happy.

“Any time, my lord,” Baekhyun answered the courtesy with courtesy, bowing his head a bit. He wasn’t wearing his armor anymore but a deep blue brocade tunic with light silken undershirt and a belt decorated with golden roses. No wonder all the ladies were after him; Chanyeol was barely able to keep himself from ogling.

“I was kind of waiting for you to find me,” Baekhyun said. “I saw you in the audience earlier.”

“Congratulations on winning, that was a great joust. Still as unbeatable as ever."

Baekhyun just tipped his head and raised his glass as thanks, smiling silently.

"I guess I can congratulate you as well," he then said. "On your nephew. Quite a party for the little prince, though I guess that's understandable."

"Well, you know how I feel about the court, so I'm not the best person to comment on the overboard royal festives," Chanyeol laughed. It also still felt weird to consider the crown prince his nephew, since he'd only seen the child for a total of two minutes upon his arrival before his caretaker had taken him away again.

"I'm thankful for the overboard royal festives because they were an excellent excuse for me to come to King's Landing," Baekhyun said and took a quick look around to check that no one nearby was listening to them.

"To come and see you," he continued lowly. The words and his intense gaze were enough to make goosebumps break out on Chanyeol's skin.

"I'm glad you came. I missed you." Chanyeol was whispering, but the words felt so heavy it was like he was shouting them over the noise of the party and people. He had missed Baekhyun so much, his smile, his voice, his body, his everything.

Baekhyun licked his lips and gave him a warm, yet still polite smile. He clinked his wine cup against Chanyeol’s and took a sip. His hands seemed to be shaking slightly. Chanyeol wondered if it was Baekhyun shaking internally under all the things and feelings they had to contain when being in front of other people. Chanyeol at least found it extremely hard at times, like right then, to keep up the appropriate and polite front, to pretend to be less than they really were to each other.

They needed to get out of there, and the sooner the better.

Chanyeol took a small step closer, looking over Baekhyun shoulder and speaking into his ear.

“I think I will be going to rest around dusk. My room is the first one in Maidenvault, behind the royal sept.”

Chanyeol lowered his gaze and exchanged a meaningful look with Baekhyun. The other smiled ever so slightly and tilted his head politely.

“Rest well, my lord. I will see you later.”

--

Later was exactly at dusk, and Chanyeol was already in his room, pacing back and forth impatiently. When he finally heard the knocking at the door, he jumped at it. Baekhyun was smiling as he walked in and slowly around the room. His face seemed to glow in the candle light. He was so beautiful.

“Nice room, my lord.”

“Thank you. I like it more now that you’re in it.”

Finally, it was just the two of them and the faulty, judgemental world shut outside. For now.

Chanyeol walked up to Baekhyun and, finally without any inhibitions or restrictions, wrapped his arms around him. He leaned his forehead against Baekhyun’s, and for a moment just enjoyed the closeness and having the other finally there in his arms.

Eventually, Baekhyun leaned in and closed the remaining distance between them. His first kisses were light and gently but soon became deeper and longer, more demanding. He fumbled with the golden buckles of Chanyeol’s tunic, opening them one by one and pulling the cloth off, along with his undershirt. Chanyeol also helped Baekhyun out of his shirts, and let his hands wander on his bare skin.

He kissed along Baekhyun jaw and neck slowly, licking over his pulse and feeling the other shiver slightly. He kissed down over his collarbones and chest, and finally dropped down on his knees before Baekhyun. Chanyeol glanced up quickly, at Baekhyun’s beautifully flushed face, his lust-filled eyes and the way his chest was heaving along his heavy breathing.

Chanyeol laid his mouth on Baekhyun’s lower stomach, just above the waistline, and cupped him through the fabric. He stroked him until he was fully hard, all the while licking and pressing open-mouthed kisses along his stomach and hips and slowly untying the laces of his pants. Baekhyun was fully panting now, and sank his fingers in Chanyeol’s hair when he finally pulled off his pants and took him into his mouth. That night, he wanted to make Baekhyun scream his name.

--

Later on, they were lying in the bed in each other’s arms. Chanyeol was spent and tired, but oh so happy. He nuzzled Baekhyun’s hair with his nose and kissed his temple, making the other chuckle.

“I wish it could always be like this,” Chanyeol said.

“Me too.”

“When are you going back to Highgarden?” Chanyeol didn’t really want to think about the other leaving but at the same time he felt like he needed to prepare himself.

“Actually,” Baekhyun said slowly, while absent-mindedly stroking his fingers up and down Chanyeol’s forearm, “I might not go back this time.”

“What?”

Baekhyun turned a bit so that he was able to look Chanyeol in the eyes. “I was thinking of joining the Kingsguard. That way, I could live here and be a bit closer to you. Five days’ journey instead of two weeks.”

“Are you sure?” Chanyeol asked. “What about your family? What about Highgarden? You’re the heir.”

Baekhyun snorted. “I couldn’t care less. They can make Seulgi the heir, or some of my male cousins. I have no interest in being a lord, sitting at my castle. No offense, of course.”

“None taken,” Chanyeol smiled. He couldn’t really imagine Baekhyun as a lord, either. He was way too active and self-willed.

“But are you really sure about joining the guard? You’ll have to throw everything away, dedicate your life to it. Of course I’d be happy to have you closer by. And well, the King and my sister are still trying to get me to join the small council, and if I were to finally give in, I’d have to visit here a lot more often.”

Baekhyun’s smile was bright and hopeful. “I’d like that possibility a lot. I think you should say yes.”

Maybe to emphasize his point, Baekhyun leaned closer to kiss him.

“Maybe I will,” Chanyeol mused. “I'd put up with the court and this royal circus if I had my own Kingsguard knight waiting for me every time.”

“Oh, you would. And the knight would always warmly welcome his lord when he comes.”

“He would? How?”

There was this fiery, intense look in Baekhyun’s eyes and mischievous grin on his lips as he scooted down and under the covers. It was Chanyeol’s time to scream.

as you know, i haven't watched got at all but oooohhhh i liked this a lot!! at first i was a bit confused what chanyeol's role was but you made it very clear later, and especially when you mentioned his nephew etc. :D BBH AS A HANDSOME KNIGHT and him having a battle against donghae ohhhh yessss!!! and now that i re-read the whole fic, i realized you didn't mention during the tournament that the certain knight was bbh but - as always - i could easily figure it out. XD esp when they mentioned pcy and him being OLD FRIENDS hehehe..... i wonder what kind of a relationship that is...... 8)))

i liked when there was this tension between them at the party and how eager they were to get out of there asdfgh and then the sex part was hot as hell!! i was afraid it's going to be a sad ending and they're going to keep on living in that long-distance-thing but luckily you made it hopeful ♥ actually there was no sadness at all in this fic, so i truly truly enjoyed it. ;;; it was also refreshing to have such many characters, although they didn't play a big role but YOU KNOW :D! AND GOOD ENDING, very 5/5 oh yeesssss let the boy scream and enjoy!

not sure if you're going to continue this or how the story goes on (like we all know, i have NO idea about got and i have no idea whether this was even similar to the series etc??) but i'd loooove to read more, as always! i have such chanbaek!feels and i need to pour them somewhere. >< ♥ and i'm sure i missed a LOT since you made many references to places i have no idea about but congratulations for making it work anyway for people like me!!!
