“Did you hear from Mei this week?” Ed asks. They’re curled up on the sofa—or rather, Ed is curled up on the sofa while Al is curled up on the floor with Tim—after cleaning up the kitchen and putting the leftovers away. Ed is looking forward to a midnight stew-and-biscuits snack.

“Hmm,” Al mumbles, lifting his face off of Tim’s fluffy back. “Yeah. Why?”

Ed shrugs, the blanket over his legs shifting and exposing a non-flesh toe which he then proceeds to wiggle. “I was just wondering what she’s up to these days.”

Al glances up at him—anyone else would be suspicious, but not his sweet brother Al, which is one of the many things keeping Ed working in the capital—and smiles. “She has so many projects—right now she’s working on a water filtration project, and we’re actually coordinating on using tide generators so they can be self-powered.” He’s so wholesome—Ed desperately needs to squish his face, but doesn’t want to draw attention to the fact that Al and Mei are just—

“Oof,” Al exhales, as Tim rolls over, doing an excellent job of squashing him for Ed, leaving him free to grin into the sofa arm about Al and Mei’s massive mutual crush. It’s probably visible from at least Mars by now.
