[Team one] frozen foods aisle

Mousi said I could take another turn while we're waiting on the reshuffle, so here I am attempting to write Ochamina for the first time lol.

"Time for some ice cream," Ochako says to herself as she walks towards the grocery store.

She stretches her arms, feeling the strain in her muscles after a long and hectic patrol. The aftereffects of quirk overuse also churn around in her stomach. Ice cream will help, she tells herself, even though the treat is more a reward for making it through patrol than anything else.

Ochako feels like she's on autopilot as she makes her way to the frozen food section, feeling the artificial chill increase as she gets closer. But she's not paying too much attention until she accidentally bumps into someone when she turns around the corner of the last aisle.

"Whoops, sorry!" she apologizes immediately before she realizes she knows the other person.

"Hey Ochako!" Mina replies cheerfully as if she hadn't almost been run over by a pro hero on a mission for comfort food. "Long time no see! You just getting off a patrol too?"

Ochako wonders how she had missed the bright pink ball of energy in front of her. Mina looks the same as always -- cheerful and dressed in vibrant colors that would catch anyone's eye. The only difference from the last time Ochako had seen her old classmate is that her curly pink hair looks a bit more windswept than usual, like she'd tried to tame it back down with a brush but gave up on the effort.

"Yeah. It's been a long day," Ochako answers with a nod. Running into a familiar face boosts her mood a bit more than before. "How was your patrol?" she asks, pointedly looking at the curly pink hair.

Mina laughs and points at the mess atop her head. "Got a villain with a wind quirk earlier. Messed up all my hard work styling it this morning. But totally worth it to take that guy down. He was so rude! The wind made it hard to use my quirk safely with other people around, so I ended up having to stop him without it." Mina demonstrates a few moves which look suspiciously like breakdancing, making Ochako laugh just imagining the scene.

"Villains with annoying quirks are the woooorst," she laments after she's done waving her arms and legs around.

"Agreed," Ochako answers, thinking back to a villain from the week before who had drenched her with some sort of waterfall-esque quirk. Mina's hair at least looks a lot cuter than hers had been dripping with water like a wet poodle.

Mina glances at the ice cream freezer in front of them, forgotten previously in the excitement of catching up. "I guess we had the same idea, huh?"

Ochako laughs again. "Yeah, today was crazy but not too crazy that ice cream can't fix it."

"You are so right, Ochako," Mina agrees, fixing her hands on her hips as she eyes the shelves behind the glass doors. "Got any good recs?"

"Mochi ice cream," she blurts without even thinking.

Mina's eyes light up. "You know, I've never had that before."

She leans forward, searching for the mochi ice cream hidden amongst the selection in front of them, eyes sweeping across each shelf like a hawk searching for prey. Ochako ends up watching Mina more than the ice cream, so she sees the exact moment a satisfied cute grin settles on her face. It reminds Ochako of so many times in high school when Mina was about to suggest something fun to do.

But as quickly as the grin appears, it's replaced by disappointment.

"Ah, there's only one carton of mochi ice cream," Mina says, taking it out of the freezer. She offers it to Ochako.

Ochako waves her hands and shakes her head. "No, you should try it! I think today is a..." she reaches into the freezer and pulls out the nearest container, glancing at the label, "a cookie dough ice cream day for me."

"Good choice," Mina laughs. Then she contemplates the ice cream in her hand. "So if you're sure about this..."

"Yep," Ochako insists. "You'll have to tell me later how you like it. I guarantee you'll be obsessed with it after just two bites."

"I'll let you know the verdict," Mina replies, tucking the container in the crook of her arm. Then she turns to head towards the checkout. "Sorry I've got to run, but hopefully I'll run into you again soon, Ochako. Maybe we can patrol together!"

Ochako nods as she watches the other leave. She thinks it would be nice if their agencies could arrange a few joint patrols or they could meet up for some sparring practice. They're both in the same city, but Ochako realizes they hardly ever run into each other. She's missed getting to see Mina every day since they graduated and moved out of the dorms.

After a few minutes of reminiscing, Ochako notices she's still standing in the frozen foods section, and she's accidentally floated her own ice cream to the ceiling. She safely catches the carton as it falls back to earth, and, after another moment of consideration, she returns it to the shelf.

Just talking to Mina had cheered her up enough.

Uh, guess I'll tag [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli if she wants to go again?
