damagea this time!
I’m continuing this ’13 going on 30’ fic! I kind of ran out of time and these issues with LJ didn’t help, but I just didn’t want to skip. ;_;
Baekhyun-centered, G, 1097 words
Quiet hours were now even more rare as Baekhyun had found out he could buy stuff with all the money he had in his bank account.
“Do you know how great it is for being able to buy all kinds of console games online these days, I don't even have to go outside and look for a store,” Baekhyun got going, marveling a brand new shiny Nintendo Switch in his hands.
Jongdae responded with a long yawn. Maybe the baby had been taking a toll on him, Baekhyun couldn't blame the guy for that. Surely, it wasn't an easiest task to combine all the family stuff with working as the manager for a whole nation's favorite son-in-law. That was a lot to handle.
“I just wish you were even as half-excited about your new album as you're about gaming,” Jongdae commented.
“Oh dude, I am!” Baekhyun insisted, and he didn't even have to lie. It was great being able to do singing as a profession and do some actual adulting finally.
“What's with that sudden 'dude thing', I thought people used that maybe 15 years ago,” Jongdae shook his head in disapprove, but he didn't sound angry this time, ”Could you now finally focus on the task I gave you? You have a dance class with Taewoo later.”
Involuntarily Baekhyun forced himself to go through the given list, bored and not really interested, since for him it was more or less indifferent for him who would collaborate with him as a producer. It wasn't going to be anyone famous anyway, not an idol colleague, but a promising newbie who would bring them loads of money rather than taking it from them. Greedy bastards, as they said.
Still, Baekhyun surely didn't want to hear any more complaints from Jongdae’s side about him being immature and-or lazy, so he forced himself to comply the order. According to Jongdae, it was important to get Baekhyun's opinion to be heard too.
Unsurprisingly, none of the names rang any bells until he noticed something.
“Park Chanyeol,” Baekhyun read aloud.
Jongdae turned to look at him. “Huh? Someone you know?”
Baekhyun stared at the name, as if hoping it would tell something more for himself too. He desperately hoped he would remember what had happened between them.
It also kind of hurt to think that they had met only a day before, apparently after such a long time, but Chanyeol hadn’t even mentioned there could be a small chance for him to work with Baekhyun maybe. Either he wasn’t that excited about that or he simply couldn’t care a less about Baekhyun.
“We used to be close,” Baekhyun then simply stated.
Jongdae pretended to look he understood.

Later on his break time again, Baekhyun noticed his phone was ringing, the call was coming from an unknown number but he still pushed the green button on the screen.
“Hello?” he answered with a halting tone, balancing the phone between his left ear and shoulder as he tried to add seventh piece of sugar to the coffee Jongdae had earlier brought to him.
”Oh how wonderful, you bothered to answer this time. I kind of forgot how many times I've tried,” the voice on the other side of the line stated in a sarcastic manner. It was a voice of an adult man, yet judging by the speaking manner, Baekhyun had no troubles recognizing to whom belonged.
“Baekbeom hyung?” he winced.
”Wow, has our star already forgotten he has a brother?”
Baekhyun swallowed. That didn’t sound a promising start for a conversation.
“No, of course I haven't. How have you been?” he tried. He really really wanted to know what Baekbeom was up to. Unfortunately that probably wasn't a right thing to ask since he only got a sarcastic chuckle as an immediate response.
”How have I been?” his brother snorted under his breath. ”Come on, could we already stop pretending that you'd be even slightly interested in that.”
”But I am!” Baekhyun had no idea why Baekbeom was sounding like that. Why did he sound like he couldn’t care a less about Baekhyun? After all, they had always been close. At least what Baekhyun remembered.
”Anyway, I guess I had an obligation to call you and inform you that your present arrived in mail yesterday, Eunji loved it and asked when you're going to visit again. I had no heart to tell her that you're most probably not going to join us for the chuseok this year either…”
“I haven’t been home for chuseok?” Baekhyun asked, brows furrowed in confusion. Chuseok had always been his very favorite holiday.
”You know what, I’m tired of your games,” Baekbeom sighed. ”I’ll tell the kids you said hi, even though we all know their uncle couldn’t care a less about them.”
”Wait hyung. What— kids?”
”That’s not funny but okay, let’s follow your childish rules - as always. Eunji and Hyunki. Your niece. Your nephew. Three years apart from each other. Ringing any bells yet?”
Baekhyun was silent.
Of course Baekbeom was talking about his kids. He was an adult man and adults got married, and got kids of their own. Baekbeom’s dreams had always been more simple and traditional than his, and knowing his personality it wasn’t a surprise his dreams hadn’t changed during these years. His brother had always tried to knock some sense to Baekhyun, telling him that an idol career was a suicide and mundane work didn’t necessarily mean mundane life. But Baekhyun hadn’t really bothered listening to him and his preach.
”Wow hyung,” Baekhyun then managed to say, feeling touched all of a sudden. ”So, you’re a father.”
”As much as you’re an uncle. Times two, to be exact.”
The word ’uncle’ echoed through the receiver.
Baekhyun couldn’t believe such news, such a groundbreaking and radical change to his own life, was brought to him like that. Just like that. As if Baekbeom was talking about the weather. But then again, how could his brother know Baekhyun had skipped half of his life in one night? How could anyone know, let alone understand?
”I’m going to hang up. I have work to do.”
”Wait hyung.”
”What now?”
”I miss you. I miss Eunji and Hyunki. I miss your wife. I miss mom and dad. I miss you all. A lot.”
”Don’t bother, Baekhyun. It’s already too late.”
He hanged up the call with that.
Your turn,

AAHH the continuation to this AU after a while, niiice!! 8D i'm eager to see what's going to happen and how bbh will deal but at the same time it makes me anxious and sorry for him since he's clearly so out of everything, understandably, having skipped 15 years of his life all of a sudden ;; so i'm like curious and slightly stressed/worried when reading this hahah.
ohh, chanyeol working with bbh for his future album?? that would be INTERESTING 8) he's going to pick him, isn't he, he has to!! i will need them to be forced to work together and eventually sort things out and make up and and and...! i'm getting ahead of myself but i can't help it.
awwww, that phone call with baekbeom :((( that's me again being sorry for him! poor bbh, lots of things for him to fix, thanks for his older self who's apparently been a dick to all of the people around him -_- (except for jongdae, maybe!) and aww, of course he wouldn't even know his brother has kids, how weird must that be! T_T hopefully he can convince his brother and the rest of the family and make up for the past things. i want to read about uncle bbh! ;;
thank youuu for writing this!! like i said, even though it makes me stressed, i'm sooo eager to know how all the things will unfold and how bbh will deal with his new life and job and all these seemingly broken relationships he has, and i'm sure he will do that, one way or the other!! so looking forward to reading more about this soon again! 8D
