[Team 1] Waterproof Your Ship Before You Take the Trip

Sora/Riku, 1500 words, PG-13ish for discussion of sex and safe sex, but no actual sex yet. I was scammed into starting a sequel to my other first time fic so this is the beginning chunk of that.

"Lead the way, my liege," Sora declared, hefting the bags in his hands into a more comfortable position. The Corona marketplace was no joke, especially when Sora had spent the afternoon shopping with Rapunzel dragging him along from shop to shop like a cheerful whirlwind. "Our rooms of repose await!"

"You're going to drop those," Riku said, taking the bags from one of Sora's hands and offering his hand to hold instead. Sora laced his fingers through Riku's and looked perfectly relaxed holding Riku's hand even though there were plenty of people in the marketplace to see; Riku's heart still fluttered anytime Sora was so casually public. "Please tell me you aren't going to keep doing the romance novel princess voice the rest of the night."

"You're no fun," Sora said, but he was grinning. "What did you and Eugene do?"

"Nothing much," Riku said lightly, keeping his eyes straight ahead. "Had drinks at the Snuggly Duckling. Met Eugene's old crew. Lance showed off his scars." Riku waited for Sora to pick up the conversation, but Sora was still looking at him expectantly. Riku cleared his throat. "Attila bakes, did you know that? You two should—"

"Are you blushing?" Sora interrupted.

"No!" Riku totally was, turning pink now that Sora had called attention to it. "It's just warm."

"You are!" Sora said, delighted, making Riku scowl. "What on earth did Eugene say to you that you're still blushing hours later?"

"Nothing! I'm not blushing!" Riku spluttered. He tried to shake Sora's hand off to scrub his face, but Sora's grip was too tight.

"It must have been bad, you look like he gave you The Talk," Sora teased. He tugged Riku to a stop so that he could get a better look at him. Face now entirely on fire, Riku could only glare at the sidewalk. Sora gasped. "Oh no, he DID!"

"They had a song, ok?!" Riku blurted, just wanting this conversation to end. Even the memory of it made him shudder. "They sang a safe sex shanty! It was insanely catchy and it's going to be stuck in my head for a week, stop laughing!"

"I can't!" Sora wailed, cracking up so hard he sagged against Riku's side. "What was it called, you have to tell me!"

Rolling his eyes upwards, Riku muttered, "Put Yer Mast in a Bag Before Ye Hoist Yer Flag."

It was several minutes until Sora could collect himself enough for them to walk on, still snickering and wiping tears from his eyes.

"Oh man, we really are obvious," Sora said eventually. Riku raised his eyebrows at 'we,' and Sora gave him a sheepish smile. "Rapunzel gave me a pamphlet. A Proper Princess's Guide to the Wedding Night and its Duties."

"You're kidding," Riku said. Sora shook his head, and adorable stripe of pink spreading across his nose. "You asked Rapunzel…that?"

"Well, why not?" Sora demanded, free hand on his hip. "She's married! By now she should have done all of…it. Anyway, it's so outdated, I'll show you when we get back to the Inn, it's amazing. I mean," Sora shot Riku a sly look, "it's no book from the Tower library with those helpful diagrams, but—"

"Shut up with that," Riku ordered, bopping the top of Sora's head lightly with his fist. They were reaching the edge of the market, lamps starting to come on leading them back to their seaside inn. "You were all about those diagrams."

"Mm, I'm a visual learner," Sora said, taking Riku's hand again and letting it swing between them. The warm lamp light caught in his hair and softened the curve of his cheek as he filled the walk back with chatter about his visit with Rapunzel; Riku couldn't pull his gaze away, even when he stumbled over uneven spots in the cobblestone. Sora laughed knowingly, squeezing Riku's hand tight.

The inn was right on the waterfront, and Sora and Riku had the best room in the place, with windows facing the sea. Sora had been delighted by the view when the landlady had shown them their room, hanging half out the window while the landlady was telling Riku that the best feature of this room was the excellent soundproofing, and Riku was trying not to die of embarrassment. It was only after she'd gone that Riku tickled the truth out of Sora: that when he booked the room he might have hinted just a little that a 'honeymoon suite' wouldn't be amiss.

Sora dropped his shopping bags with a sigh of relief as soon as they were in the door, kicking off his sneakers and flopping onto the bed. Riku untied his boots and lined their shoes up neatly while Sora scrunched around to get comfortable on the mattress, stretching out his back. Despite the size of the bed, Sora's unchecked sprawl meant Riku had to knee him in the thigh to even have a chance of crawling in next to him.

"If Your Majesty needs more personal space, I can always rent the room next door," Riku commented as he settled against the headboard. Sora told him to shut up as he rolled over onto Riku's chest, then stretched up to collect a lazy kiss. "Mmm. Show me this pamphlet, I want to be sure you know your royal duties."

Chuckling, Sora patted down his biggest pants pockets, turning up a bundle of bay leaves, some skipping stones, a half-empty ether, some lucid shards, and finally the pamphlet. As Sora had said, it was indeed charmingly outdated, printed with a font where all the S's looked like F's. There were half a dozen woodblock-type illustrations, not a one of which contained anything remotely sexual.

"Is that a bundle of wheat?" Riku asked, squinting.

"Apparently, I'm supposed to pee on some wheat stalks tomorrow morning," Sora explained, looking far too amused. "If it blooms, it means I'm pregnant. Do you think Moogles have wheat in stock?"

"This is ridiculous," Riku chuckled, skimming the first few paragraphs. "Listen to this: a wise husband will invent an errand of fifteen or twenty minutes so that a nervous bride has time to compose herself, and will likely return to find her abed of her own will."

"It says I might be alarmed by your male fexual organ," Sora added, purposefully reading the S's wrong. "Fexual congrefs should be avoided until I become accuftomed to your fize."

"Stop reading it like that!" Riku demanded, snickering.

"In time I may come to fee it with fond fentiment," Sora continued earnestly. Riku snorted loudly and Sora dissolved into laughter. He reached to pull Sora in for a kiss, but to his surprise, Sora sat up, looking Riku over thoughtfully.

"Hm?" Riku asked. He cupped Sora's face, rubbing his thumb across Sora's cheekbone.

"Are you nervous?" Sora crossed his legs, fidgeting with the hem of his pants. "I know we planned this trip for a first time thing, but if you aren't sure, I won't be mad."

Riku tilted his head. "What makes you think I'm not sure?"

Sora reached up to the hand that was touching his face, laying two fingers against the pulse point in Riku's wrist. "Your heart's racing. And you've been making the face."

"The face?" Riku asked. Sora scrunched his brow up and pressed his lips together, everything tensed up. Riku clicked his tongue. "I do not look like that."

"You do!" Sora leaned in to kiss Riku's forehead, right between his eyebrows. "But I love your face anyway. And yeah, I want to hurry up and have our first time already, but only if you do."

"I just…" Riku's words faltered under Sora's clear blue eyes, his chest tight. "I want it to go perfectly. Even though we planned everything, it always kind of goes wrong the first time we do something new, and I hate that."

"It's definitely gonna be like that," Sora chuckled ruefully. "Do you really hate it? I don't. I'm glad we have to learn it together and it's not always me making all the mistakes."

That shut Riku up for a second, torn between wanting to kiss Sora senseless for being so sweet or arguing with him about being down on himself. After a second, he shook his head. "You're right. It's all right if it's not perfect, if it's with you. I just want you to feel good."

"You always make me feel good," Sora replied firmly. He leaned in for a kiss like sealing a promise, and then scrambled over Riku to stand. "Come on! Bath first, I've been thinking about this huge tub all day!"

"You go on," Riku said slyly, folding his arms. "I read somewhere I should occupy myself with an errand for fifteen or twenty minutes. I'm gonna go see if I can find a Moogle with some wheat."

Sora stopped in the bathroom doorway, hand on his hip. "You better get your butt in this bathroom before I count to three, mister, or I'll send you on an errand all right."

Laughing, Riku hefted himself off the bed, stripping off his shirt. "Yes, sir, Your Majesty. Your wish is my command."
