[Team Three] Equilibrium
Some Star Trek Engineering banter featuring Geordi, Wes, and a brief appearance by Worf. 325w, G.
"Maybe if we reroute the signal through the filters in series instead of the standard array--"
"--then we'd apply the polarization in stages. Great thinking, Wes!" Geordi's fingers flew across the screen as he rerouted circuits into the new configuration. "There we go. Steady. Increase the magnetic field on the second inverter, would you, Wes? We're still getting too much noise in the signal."
"I'm seeing output spikes from the main power source. Geordi, you might want to look at this," Wesley said as he pushed away from the screen to make space.
"Whoa! That's not looking good at all. Let's see if we can dial this back down. Drop the magnetic field back down, and be ready to decrease the polarization."
"I apologize for the interruption," Worf called from the doorway, "but the Captain requests your presence on the bridge."
"In a minute, Worf. I heard him the first time," Geordi said without looking up from the screen.
"The Captain is quite insistent, Lieutenant."
"And I'll be there as soon as I can, but unless he wants us to lose control of the matter-anti-matter reactor, he's going to have to wait. I don't know what's going on with this planet, but it's doing its best to shake our ship to pieces."
"We have lost contact with the away team," Worf reported. "The Captain wishes to beam them back aboard immediately; however, Chief O'Brien reports atmospheric fluctuations are preventing him from getting a lock on the location."
Geordi rubbed a hand over his forehead. "Okay, power system appears to be stabilizing. Wes, do you think you can keep on eye on it here? Yell if it starts breaking up too badly again. Worf, tell the Captain I'll be in Transporter Room 2. Let's get the away team back and get the hell out of here."
