[Team Three] Family
Exploring some backstory for Inui in an ongoing Prince of Tennis cyberpunk AU. 250 words, G
Family. The word still sat strangely on his tongue. He had never imagined a family for himself. Family was not something that happened to spiders. First, they had to live long enough to consider the prospect in the first place. Probability: less than 25%, though increasing over the past several years. Second, they had to find another individual to create a family with. Probability: undetermined; he had never seen the topic covered in the literature. Estimated probability: low; he knew of no examples himself, and even hearsay only gave a vague rumor here and there.
If someone had told him a year ago that he would have a son, he never would have believed them. Statistically speaking, it was absurd and impractical, not to mention ill-advised and dangerous. And that was before mentioning that said son's other parent was one of the most efficient and deadly spider busters of the past decade.
Twelve months ago, he had been relatively content with his work and his research partner. He never could have imagined how quickly that all would change. His research partner had been ready to kill him. The spider buster had rescued him. Sometime while he had been in hiding, the spider buster's son's mother had disappeared. Somehow, he had ended up stepping in.
Had love come first, or had necessity? The first few months with Shingo and after Yanagi were a blur of sleep deprivation and stress. Somehow, he had come out of it with newfound feelings for the spider buster, and for his son. Family--maybe he could get used to the word.
