“That’s nobody’s business but my own,” Jesse mutters under her breath, ignoring Polaris. Across the room, Emily is flipping through reports, a tiny smile on her face. The corners of Jesse’s mouth twitch up despite herself.
“These are fascinating,” Emily says, voice buoyant. “I can’t believe this didn’t come up on our radar earlier.” Jesse has to agree—an incident at a holiday resort leaving no survivors? Signs of a cover-up?
The phone in her pocket buzzes, a reminder that it’s date night. Jesse had better cancel that restaurant reservation. Polaris—
“I don’t kiss and tell,” Jesse huffs. Polaris just laughs.
