[Team three] cassettes
Thanks to
thesecretdoor for suggesting something to write about this time. Maybe I'll continue this again and decide why they're driving!
Kiribaku, short, g-rated
Together, they continue to pack the rental car with all the essentials for their trip, and Kirishima can't help but laugh at Bakugou's grumbling about the old relic they got stuck with.
"This junk bucket of bolts isn't going to make it to Osaka," he declares, slapping the hood with one palm for emphasis, as if there was any confusion about which car he's referring to.
"Well, certainly not with that attitude," Kirishima grins as he slams the trunk shut now that everything has been packed.
Bakugou chooses to ignore that comment and climb into the driver's seat. But he does not make an attempt to even start the car until he's gotten the directions properly input into his phone's GPS and has made sure both he and Kirishima have fastened their seatbelts securely.
Kirishima thinks the aggressive attention to safety details is somehow quite endearing. (And a different, silly part of Kirishima's brain somehow wonders what Bakugou would be like as an airline flight attendant.)
"Let's get this show on the road," Kirishima cheers as they finally start moving, merging into early morning traffic almost immediately.
"It's not that exciting," Bakugou replies, eyes focused intently on the road, shoulders and hands tense as he drives.
Kirishima will have to figure out a way to get him to relax a bit as the trip continues. He's got a few ideas.
"We're going on an adventure," Kirishima laughs. "It's definitely exciting! It's just me, you, and the open road."
Bakugou gestures to the myriad of cars in front of them, switching lanes recklessly. "Open road? Get your eyes checked, Shitty Hair."
Endearing insult? Check. Bakugou's already starting to relax a bit. Kirishima turns to glance out his window for a moment to hide his satisfied smile.
A little further down the highway (and after two separate incidents where Bakugou rolled down his window and yelled at a reckless driver), Kirishima decides this road trip needs music.
The radio in the old rental doesn't work, but it also has an ancient cassette player that still does.
Kirishima rummages around in a bag at his feet until he finds what he's looking for.
"Don't tell me you actually have some casettes," Bakugou says, shooting him a sideways glance.
"Well, it took a lot of searching," Kirishima begins, fingers finally wrapping around the small tapes, "but I managed to rustle up a few. I think they should still work."
Bakugou pretends like he's not interested in whatever the music is, but he doesn't stop Kirishima from popping the first one into the cassette slot.
A popular Christmas tune begins playing.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!"
Kirishima grins. "This was all I could find!"
"We're not listening to Christmas music in June!" Bakugou's bellow echoes around the car in a way that easily reminds Kirishima that they're stuck in a small enclosed space together for the next several hours.
"Christmas can live in your heart all year round," Kirishima says seriously, and then adds. "I'm pretty sure that's a song lyric somewhere on this tape."
"This is absurd," Bakugou grumbles. "You're absurd."
"And that's why you like me," Kirishima teases.
Bakugou breathes a resigned sigh because he can't argue with that.
"This is gonna be a long trip."
You're up

The Christmas cassettes was my first idea once I knew they'd be road-tripping!
Maybe I'll do more with this for future shiritori turns ^_^
