[Team Three] Barter

I've had Rook/Vil on my mind lately, so here's a short interlude of Vil stressing about an upcoming event, Rook solving the problem, and no one trusting the Night Raven College headmaster not to create more problems along the way. Twisted Wonderland, Rook/Vil (+ implied Jade/Rook), G, 500w.
"I don't want to be late," Vil said, glancing at the ornate filigree clock face across the room. Unless one knew him well, it would be easy to read his demeanor as calm and unruffled.

Rook wasn't so easily fooled. A hunter paid attention to even the smallest details, and so he noticed the way Vil's finger fidgeted almost imperceptibly in his lap, or the way his foot tensed in time with the ticking of the clock, held back from tapping only by hours of etiquette drills. "My dear Prince of Poison," he said, "I assure you, you will not be late to your appointment. They aren't expecting you for a full hour yet, and the event doesn't begin until nearly two hours after that."

"I told them they should schedule it earlier in the day. This time of year, there are afternoon thunderstorms more often than not. No one's going to want to be caught outside in that weather."

"Unfortunately, the Magift team reserved the Coliseum for practice for most of the day. Professor Crewel was apparently unsuccessful in persuading Coach Vargas to reschedule." Unsuccessful would perhaps be an understatement, but some of the suggestion that had flown between the two did not bear repeating within the walls of the dormitory. Had Riddle been present, both teachers would certainly have been on the receiving end of Riddle's unique magic for at least a half dozen infractions each, and those were only for the rules Rook was aware of.

"And if Headmaster Crowley cared half as much about this event as he claims to, he could have ordered Vargas to move his practice," Vil said. It was dangerously close to a grumble for one whose manners were usually so impeccable. "Did I mention he nearly fainted in horror yesterday when Crewel mentioned the possibility of a storm? If it weren't for Professor Trein remembering a weather dome system that was last used before any of us were born, we might have ended up with Deuce and Sebek running around the rafters with umbrellas."

"But you do have a roof, one hopes, and therefore you have no reason to arrive so far before the designated time." Rook raised a finger before Vil could protest. "And in case the barrier fails, I, Rook Hunt, have procured just the solution you need."

The corner of Vil's mouth twitched in a smile before he smoothed it back into a carefully neutral expression, and Rook counted that as a tally toward his score. With a dramatic flourish, he withdraw a glass bottle from his pocket and presented it to Vil for inspection. "Monsieur Mastermind drove a hard bargain for this pretty little thing, but it is of course worth every penny for my Prince of Poison. The best waterproofing on the market. One spray on your clothing, and it will repel even the toughest stains. Guaranteed not to damage any fabric or leave unpleasant residues."

"If it's of their own design, then I'm certain it will be worth whatever you bargained away. Though judging by the twinkle in your eye, it's no burden at all."
