[team sonic] tightrope
When it rains it pours...
I haven't written for like 6 months but all of a sudden I'm inspired to write lots of angst so I'm kicking off team sonic.
YutoxYamada; PG?; ~200 words; trigger warnings for alcohol/alcohol dependancy and light angst
“You only want me when you’re drunk.” Yamada says and they’re at the point in the night where it’s hard to tell if it’s teasing or accusatory.
How does Yuto even try to explain? He wants Yamada all the time, he’s just not confident enough to want him sober anymore. He doesn’t feel brave enough.
“You know that isn’t true.” he says, trying to keep his voice even, somewhere between teasing and appeasing. He does, right? He did, once.
Yamada looks hurt, stepping back to maintain the careful distance that Yuto has been drinking all night to close. And Yamada was smiling, laughing, indulging.
So what was it? What turned Yamada cold?
Was he talking too much? Slurring too much? He doesn’t think he’s been staggering around embarrassingly…
He doesn’t know where the line is - when he’s drunk enough that he can flirt with Yamada and when he’s too drunk that Yamada doesn’t want him.
It’s even harder to see that line when he’s three sheets to the wind, but he doesn’t know how to traverse it otherwise.
He can’t even tightrope walk sober, that’s Yamada’s thing.
And the floor is open...

This is so poignant and sad TT I love the emotion you've captured.
