[Team Three] Hindsight Is 20/20
This fic is based on the book A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske. 300 words, G
He lay down the notebook on the table between them. “Seen this before?” Edwin’s blunt forefinger stabbed at the text scrawled on the lined page.
“‘Once caught up in the grip of foresight, it is said to be difficult to pull oneself back to reality. One must, therefore, exercise extreme caution in the event of foresight visions—that is, assuming such visions actually can occur,’” Robin dutifully read aloud from the page. “New research? I must say, Edwin, it reads rather like the other texts on foresight we found in your family library.”
Edwin’s lips thinned into a tight line, but his eyes softened when they met Robin’s. “It does indeed sound familiar. But did you notice the handwriting?”
“No, but…” Robin leaned in closer to examine the script before glancing back up at Edwin & running a hand through his dark hair. “What are you getting at? Whose is it?”
“I’m afraid it looks a whole lot like the hand of my insufferable brother,” Edwin huffed, lips curling into a sneer. Robin might have been intimidated by his colleague’s scowl if he didn’t know that Edwin’s disdain was born from concern for his safety. “And if he’s meddling again, we need to put a stop to it!”
“I don’t disagree,” Robin said, trying to breathe deeply to calm the sudden rush of blood at his temples as the ominous portent behind Edwin’s words sunk in. “But how are we going to accomplish that? I mean, how can we stop him any further than you already have with the binding?”
Edwin’s shoulders slumped as he sagged into a chair, but his voice was reassuringly calm as he met Robin’s gaze again. “I don’t know yet, but we’re going to find a way!”
Last words: “We’re going to find a way”
