[team one] almost a prologue to that college AU I wrote
“Congratulations, we’re in this together!”
“Neon Genesis Evangelion or High School Musical? Pick a mood.” Riku laid his acceptance letter carefully on his desk and smirked.
Sora balled his own up, more a pouty act of impulse he would soon regret than a power move. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about. You told me there was no way I could handle Evangelion.”
“Oh yeah, I did, didn’t I?” Riku had scarcely been able to handle it himself, a fact that Sora didn’t need to know. “Still not lending you my DVDs. Do you have any idea how expensive it was to get those all shipped here?”
“Then we can watch it when we’re roommates!” Riku couldn’t help but smile at the excitement that had returned to Sora’s face.
But wait. “Roommates?”
“Yeah! C’mon, Riku. Like you were gonna room with anybody else.” He almost missed the elbow to his ribs, lost as he was in Sora’s grin.
“I-I guess...” Sora was correct, at least in the fact that Riku had been restlessly scouring the department of residency’s website and various random forums for information on how to land a single-occupancy room. “If you can handle my exacting standards, that is.”
Sora grinned, not so subtly glancing at the impeccable examples of peak organization scattered—*placed—*throughout Riku’s room. “Well, I’ve gotta try harder sometime. And who else is gonna put up with me?”
Riku laughed. “I was kidding, but good to hear nonetheless.”
Sora turned away for a bit, grasping his right wrist. “So... so... you’re in, right?”
“For...?”
“Roommates! If you don’t want to, we-”
“Why not? Let’s do it.” Riku interrupted (before Sora exploded in a puff of words).
“... roommates, right?”
“Yes. Roommates.”
Best friends. College students. Roommates.
What more could Riku ask for?
