Tea leaves uncurl at the bottom of the cup, and I hear the door close behind you. An echo of sunlight filters through the curtains you put up, clutching at the glass but ultimately slipping into the shadows beneath the carpet. Outside, there are people who know what you want and can give it to you, if you can find them. It will take you a lifetime to find them, and I will wait for you to come home. The train pulls itself in a block away, and I can’t hear you anymore. The city swallows you like the forest a stream.
