"...won't forgive you if you die. Haitham, do you hear me? Alhaitham, open your fucking eyes!"

Kaveh sounded terrified, in a way that Alhaitham didn't often hear. He was emotional, often overdramatic… but not like this.

His chest hurt. No just in the sense of him struggling to breathe — although there was certainly that, too — but something sharper, like he'd been run through by a sword. In retrospect, that was probably a fairly accurate description of the source of pain he was experiencing. Though from Alhaitham's hazy recollections, it probably wasn't a sword so much as a stray shard of debris. He wasn't entirely sure; everything had happened too quickly for him to process at the time.

Ooh, I like the mix of dreaminess and intellectualizing going on here, and this is very good whump! And love how he sneaks in a somewhat snide comment about Kaveh, in the midst of all of this He was emotional, often overdramatic… but not like this. -- but also how this underscores the angst and the fear!
