[Team four] Pumpkins galore

This is a snippet of an Ultraman Arc fic I've been working on. Just a bit of pre-relationship Yuma/Ishido fluff, featuring pumpkin carving for the Halloween holiday season 🎃

G-rated, couple hundred words

"Now we... scoop this stuff out?" Ishido says, frowning down at the exposed pumpkin innards now that he's got the top part off.

"Yep." Yuma pulls a whole handful of stringy pulp and seeds out of his own pumpkin and dumps it on the plate. "Easy."

Ishido watches Yuma for a moment, like he's gauging the messiness level of the task at hand. And then he shrugs off his jacket, rolls up his sleeves, and starts scooping seeds out.

Yuma finds himself watching Ishido for a moment too long, suddenly interested in how the rolled-up sleeves look shows off Ishido's nicely toned forearms.

"Are you finished already?" Ishido asks.

"Huh?" Yuma pulls himself out of his thoughts. "Oh! No, not quite." He refocuses on his pumpkin again, making sure he's gotten the last of the seeds and pulp out.

That was weird. He's never paid that much attention before to how nice Ishido looks. Yuma glances down at his SKIP t-shirt, feeling a little self-conscious.

He should, uh... probably pay attention to what he's doing instead.

"So, we can carve whatever kind of face we want?" Ishido asks. He's staring intently at his pumpkin, as if trying to visualize an idea.

"Absolutely anything," he replies.

Yuma thinks he's probably just going to do a standard jack-o-lantern face. Can't go wrong with the classics, after all. But he's curious what Ishido has in mind for his own pumpkin.

"Hm..." Ishido nods. He's already somehow sipping another cup of coffee as he contemplates the possibilities.

They fall silent for a while as they start carving, but it's a comfortable one. Yuma hasn't known Ishido for very long, but he's easy to work alongside. They often run into each other on their morning commute, and sometimes they chat, but sometimes they just walk together in that same kind of comfortable silence. Like a companionship that doesn't always need words.

Yuma looks forward to those moments.
