I only had time for a small section of a fic in progress. From (MGM+), Sara Myers and Jade Herrera.

It takes great effort, most nights, to make herself climb the stairs to bed, and sometimes she falls asleep on the couch, which is right by the window. Sometimes she doesn’t fall asleep, just lies on the couch through the night, listening to the noises. Sometimes in the morning she’s not sure which one she did.

She opens her eyes, and it’s light out, and she thinks she must have slept. There’s a dirty teacup beside her, so she carries it back to the kitchen. She puts the cup in the sink and opens the back door to check if there’s anything for her on the back stairs. Jade’s there. She stands very still and holds the edge of the door very tightly.

“C’mon out,” Jade says. “Let’s sit.”

“Outside?” No one’s passing by, no one usually does, that’s why she uses the back way. But.

“I’d prefer outside,” he says. “I assume you own a jacket.”

She nods, and steps away, and walks upstairs and gets the warmest jacket in the house, and she wonders if he’ll have left by the time she gets back to the kitchen door. He hasn’t left. The door is still ajar as she left it, and he’s sitting on the stairs, his back to her.
