Possible Ao3 Shiritori Pilot
A few of you guys said you'd be interested in experimenting with how it might look to run Shiritori over on Archive of Our Own. I'm opening this space for you guys to talk about if that's a thing you really want to do, since if it is, Ansa and I would need to know not to assign you to a regular shiritori team.
So if you are interested in working on that, please comment here so you guys can meet each other and discuss whether you're ready to do that this round or not. even if only 3-4 of you were interested, you could probably try.
If you are ready, I completely support an Ao3 experiment, but you'll need to pick somebody to mod from amongst yourselves as I am absolutely not up for another side project.

Preliminary ideas
I've spoken to
Note: I actually "own" the shiritori collection on ao3, so I'd be happy to donate that. I also have the sonic_shiritori collection as a sub collection of shiritori, so I'm not sure if we'd want to use that or not but it's there anyway.
-a series is created for each round of a shiritori team by the captain, to which the other members of the team are invited. i.e. "team four round may 2017 to [end date]"
-for easy reference (since a series can't itself be part of a collection, just the stories themselves), each series will be bookmarked into the shiritori collection
-in terms of notifications, each participant must subscribe to the series and also poke the person after them or ask the captain to do so on their behalf (especially if they skip)
-all fics must be posted in the correct series, as well as being added to the shiritori collection. The series does the work of keeping everything in order.
-fics can be public or member-locked but cannot be drafts.
-fics can, in addition to being posted to the correct series and collection, be also added to whatever other collections and series that the author would like.
-if the author edits the fic later to change the first and/or last sentence, since these are integral to the game of shiritori, they must include a note in the end notes clarifying this and including the original first and/or last sentence. They can't edit the first and/or last sentence until the next person on their team has posted their fic.
-it will be assumed that the shiritori fic will be in the first chapter, and any subsequent chapters the author may choose to add later are free of restrictions. Please note the above rule about changing the first and/or last sentence of here the first chapter, and if the shiritori fic itself is more than one chapter, that should be clarified in the end notes. (Though I think this is unlikely - people are more likely to add subsequent chapters later.)
-if the shiritori fic is a later chapter in an established fic, the rules about first and/or last sentences still apply, and it must be clearly stated in the top notes which chapter is the shiritori fic. The fic must be added to the correct shiritori series and the shiritori collection as per all above rules.
Addendum: people who have already cross-posted their fics to ao3 or are doing so now are welcome to add their fics to the shiritori collection, though no series will be added for lj-centric teams. However, adding crossposted fics to the ao3 collection is not required. The same applies to crossposted sonic fics. For crossposted fics, there's no restriction on editing the first and/or last sentences, since the ao3 post is a crosspost and the original fic that follows the rules of the game is still on lj.
Any suggestions/edits/things I'm missing? In terms of skips, I think that no "skip" post needs to be posted, it's just a matter of poking the next person. As usual, if there's no contact, the captain will attempt to contact the player and if there's no response the captain will poke the next person on the team. For organizational purposes, I'm not sure if having a single post on lj for each round of the ao3 team with a constantly updating master list of the team, or maybe comments being added, would be good, or if regular headers posted by the captain would be better, just to co-ordinate with the rest of shiritori. I suggest this be updated by the captain, since technically some people would prefer to be on ao3 since they don't want to be on lj and this might be a good compromise (?)
RE: Preliminary ideas
the question is if the ao3 project needs to have a masterlist? after all, the series on ao3 would be the masterlist for the ao3 shiritori. if the whole comm is moving towards leaving LJ completely, then it wouldn't be necessary, right? or do you think people would still stay on LJ, splitting into an LJ and ao3 group and thus making it 2 separate projects?
RE: Preliminary ideas
At this point, most everyone is planning on staying on lj and it tentatively seems like dw will just continue to be a fallback back up/archive. That's why the ao3 is a pilot test, especially for this first round. At least at this point though, I think it would be good to keep them as integrated as possible, rather than start ao3 off completely separate, though if the ao3 version picked up more steam as rounds progress then having it be a "sister" endeavour would make more sense. In light of this, my suggestions about some kind of masterlist or posts are ways of keeping the "parent" lj comm equally updated with the ao3 team without being excessive (and again, if later that ao3 "took off" this would potentially be phased out).
Rather than a masterlist or single post, it might just be easiest to have headers posted of the ao3 shiritori fics, in line with the regular lj team posts. I don't think there would be so much that it would be bothersome.
For skipping, I was thinking further and if everyone on the ao3 team has a twitter account, I could set it up so that people could dm the shiritori twitter (or maybe even email it? there are a few options) and the twitter would automatically tweet a "skip" to the next person (or email or whichever option). This would be using ifttt if you're familiar with that, so it's fairly flexible.
