A revamp of the rules of gameplay, since Shiritori has grown quite a bit since we created it and it continues to evolve! Please read carefully.

Nothing but the 48 hour rule is taking effect until the end of the current round.

---

(Well first of all, if you're unfamiliar with shiritori, you can read about it here.)

Here we're playing fic shiritori, in which we go in turns posting short fics that begin with the end of the previous fic.

Example:
Kara would finish with: Ryouta leans against Yara now, instead of the rock, and together they watch as the rocket ship disappears into the stratosphere.

And then I would start mine like this: The stratosphere was Fujigaya’s favorite place to think.

You may use up to the last sentence of the previous fic (so that means you can use the last word, or the last three words, etc). Small allowances will be made for final words that are difficult to begin a sentence with, eg. if the last word is "walls" you can begin your fic with "The walls".

• If you end your drabble with a proper noun (eg, "Kitayama", "Tokyo", "damned Microsoft", etc) then the game is over and the next person gets to start their drabble with whatever word they want.

• You can write whoever you want, whatever you want. (Johnnys, at least, would be great though, just so there's mutual interest.)

• There is no limit to how long your fic is (but try to make it at least 100 words please).

• You have a max of 48 hours to write your fic. If for whatever reason you can't/don't want to make the deadline, just make a post saying "pass"! If 48 hours pass and there is no post, we will skip over you and continue on with gameplay. You will not be removed from the game.

• Since Shiritori has grown so big, we will now play in teams! Teams will be assigned in sign up posts. As of this moment, there will be three teams with three team leaders ([livejournal.com profile] crazy_otaku911, [livejournal.com profile] omoikkiri, and [livejournal.com profile] miquilis) who will help keep things running smoothly. Teams will run simultaneously, we're simply creating these teams so that cycles can run faster and therefore people can write more. Shiritori is, after all, a speed game.

• You're free to use whichever tags you wish, but please use your team tag when you post fics, just so people can keep track of a team's progress. When you post your fic, please include your team number in the title.

• There's no particular posting format/header you need to use (besides your team number), but use warnings if they apply.

• Anyone is free to join for just one or two rounds and leave as well, if that's what you prefer!

Everything is totally casual and between friends, so have fun (and comment spam away) \:3/

Same as usual, sign up by responding to this post. Please remember to note if you are interested in having challenging start words or not. (With our plans of splitting everyone into teams, we'll be able to take your preferences into account more easily.)

Remember that this time, with the introduction of teams, we'll be splitting people up into teams of roughly 5. We'll come around and "assign" teams once all the sign-ups are in.

Some clarification for those of you with concerns: all we're doing with teams is to get each round to go faster. We won't be competing with each other (unless people are interested that XD) or anything like that, and we can have mass resets every once in a while if you'd like to write with different people.

The 48 hour rule -- you must write and post sometime within 48 hours after the person before you has posted. If you can't make it, please skip your turn. If you don't skip, we will skip for you once the 48 hours is up. This is, again, to make sure to keep things rolling. Remember that the nature of the original shiritori game is to get people to respond as quick as they can. I promise there is no shame attached to skipping a turn! It only allows your next turn to come around quicker. ;)

Please feel free to raise any concerns you might have about our changes, whether you are currently a writer here or not! There's still about 10 people left until the end of the round, so there's plenty of time to make adjustments.

I know I've already talked too much but please hear me out to the end because I want to make the point of this game clear. Our goal in starting this game was to have some fun writing with restrictions. We've been trying to keep the game evolving, with new rules, because sometimes, for some writers, a fresh challenge is more stimulating than complete freedom. Unfortunately, if you are only interested in writing whatever comes to mind at a leisurely pace, then perhaps this game is not for you! The thing is, we can all write drabbles and post them to our own journals anytime, but for those of us who want to play games with our writing, well, we have a lot fewer chances of doing that! Thank you for understanding.
